Autumn 2009

This autumn we have introduced a new coffee, Panama La Esmeralda and created a new blend of tea, Higgins Mayfair Blend. They are both included with other fine coffees and teas in our Autumn 2009 Coffee and Tea Taster Packs.

COFFEE

NEW- Panama La Esmeralda is grown on the slopes of the Baru volcano in the Chiriqui region in the south-west of the country at an altitude of three to four thousand feet above sea level. The farm is reliant on the nomadic Ngobe-Bugle people for picking the crops. A social programme provides food, medical checks, and educational scholarships as part of a sustainable policy. The coffee is very full bodied, being bright and sweet as a medium roast and very smooth and ‘chocolatey’ as a very dark roast. Enjoy with milk, cream or black. A Rainforest Alliance Certified coffee.

Costa Rica Tarrazu La Pastora. Our latest consignment of this very high quality coffee is grown by farmers from Coop-Tarrazu in the region overlooking the town of San Marcos. Very sweet and delicate as a medium roast, it becomes stronger as a dark roast without losing its characteristic flavour. Enjoy with milk or cream.

Rwanda Kopakabi. We introduced this coffee at the end of last year and it has proved to be a firm favourite. Very aromatic with a ‘bright’ ‘lively’ flavour, we recommend it is drunk black or with milk. A Fairtrade Certified coffee.

Try them by purchasing our Autumn 2009 Coffee Taster Pack which contains 50g of Panama La Esmeralda, 50g of Costa Rica Tarrazu, and 50g of Rwanda Kopakabi Price £4.52 plus postage £1.59 to addresses within the United Kingdom. TEA

NEW- Higgins Mayfair Blend. We have created this new blend for those who like to enjoy a high quality tea at any time of the day. A blend of full leaf teas from Ceylon, India, and China, it has a strong yet subtly layered flavour and can be enjoyed with milk or lemon. Recommended infusion time three to four minutes.

Darjeeling Garden MarkJungpana. This tea garden lies in one of the remotest parts of Darjeeling between three and four thousand feet above sea-level. All the tea has to be carried by hand down 380 winding steps and across a wooden footbridge to be shipped around the world. This stunning location, with alluvial soils irrigated by many streams and surrounded by pine forest, creates a tea of complex character and aroma. Enjoy in the afternoon either black or with lemon. Recommended infusion time three to four minutes.

Higgins Afternoon Blend. We blend teas from India, Ceylon (Sri-Lanka) and China with a hint of bergamot to make a tea to be served in the afternoon with traditional tea-time foods. Best served black or with lemon. Recommended infusion time three to four minutes.
