PERSONAL TASTING NOTES FROM DAVID HIGGINS -
Christmas is a great time to treat yourself to something a bit special that you may never have tried before.
We have some of the most interesting and unusual coffees and teas in our selection.
Coffee
Jamaica Blue Mountain from RSW estate is the best Blue Mountain that we have ever had. A very aromatic yet mild and delicate coffee with a gentle acidity which is suitable for filter or cafetiere coffee either black or with a little milk. Another Christmas favourite is the Hawaii Kona Extra Fancy which we roast either medium or very dark. This coffee is very smooth and rich with very little acidity and the very dark roast makes excellent espresso or cappuccino.
Galapagos San Cristobal is a medium roast coffee with an unrivalled aroma matched by a complex, layered flavour. It has a mellow sweetness and full flavoured aftertaste which leaves you wanting more. Best drunk black of with a little milk and best made with a filter or cafetiere.
Tea
This year we introduced Darjeeling Makaibari teas to our selection. The Darjeeling Makaibari 1st Flush Grand Reserve is the first picking of the 2011 season and we only have a limited amount left until next season begins. The tea has a balanced fruit and flower combination with hints of banana and passion fruit.
The Darjeeling Makaibari 2nd Flush Grand Reserve is the best quality Darjeeling tea we have ever sourced. A classic soft, sweet Darjeeling flavour with a muscatel finish.
Nepal is a relative newcomer to tea growing and in Jun Chiyabari they have ploughed a distinctive furrow in creating a style of tea unique to the country.
Jun Chiyabari Himalayan Imperial Black tea has an wonderfully earthy quality with a rich cocoa like finish and red berry fruit hints.
Jun Chiyabari Evergreen is a stunning green tea with butterscotch notes and a raw cocoa undertone.
Both teas are best served black.
Our teas and coffees make great gifts and can be packed in our special Higgins Coffee Canisters and Higgins Tea Caddies.
I hope you enjoy our Christmas selections and wish all our customers the compliments of the season.
