Green Tea :: Green Tea
When tea was introduced into England in the 17th century it was all unfermented green tea. Black tea only became popular in the 18th century. Now many people in the UK are drinking green tea again as it is considered to have health benefits. They contain less caffeine than black tea. Some may find them an acquired taste but if brewed for two to three minutes they makes an excellent digestif after a meal.

Japan Matcha £24.60 per 30g
Matcha is made from shade-grown tea leaves. The preparation of matcha starts several weeks before harvest, when the tea bushes are covered to prevent direct sunlight. This slows down growth, turns the leaves a darker shade of green and causes the production of amino acids that make the resulting tea sweeter. Only the finest tea buds are hand picked. The leaves are then milled into a fine powder. To brew the tea correctly use water at 80oC and pour into to a small bowl containing a small amount of the powder. Then with a wooden whisk stir the tea until a smooth creamy liquid forms. This tea is used as part of the traditional Japanese Tea Ceremony and is usually drunk after a meal.
This fine tea is only available in 30g bags.
