Bench Maji is a union of 65 primary coffee cooperatives based in South West Ethiopia. Started in 2005, it now has over 130,000 Smallholder member farmers who, alongside coffee, also produce other products such as honey and spices. The union was set up to market their outstanding coffee whilst improving the lives of the farmers and families who live and work there.

Many people say that Ethiopia is the original home of coffee with the first trees being grown there in the 11th century, subsequently followed by cultivation in India after a curious traveller smuggled some coffee beans out of Africa in the lines of his clothing.

Bench Maji coffee is unique – it is harvested from the wild. This is not uncommon in Ethiopia and lots of its coffee grows in forests. The wild coffee trees benefit from natural shade and all coffee beans are harvested by hand.

We roast this coffee medium to bring out the most unique and delicious flavours. In the cup, you can expect flavours of delicate fruit, cherry and low acidity. We recommend making this coffee as a filter pourover.

Use 18g fine ground coffee per 250ml water.
