Mr Higgins Recommends - Christmas Blend

Is it December already?

I can hardly believe it; it seems like no time at all since I was sweltering in unprecedented heat and simply trying to keep cool. At times I even forsook my usual method of coffee preparation in favour of iced coffee. Not at breakfast, of course, but certainly during the day – anything to stay cool.

What a year it has been for world events, and for those closer to home. As I have listened to worrying news, I am sure my coffee pot has been on the go more than usual. Coffee and tea feel more essential than ever.

My coffee recommendation for December is our Christmas Blend – a combination of two exceptional varieties, Colombia and Costa Rica. Christmas Blend has an enticing aroma which reminds me of mince pies fresh from the oven. Its flavour has a fruity edge with notes of orange and a smooth finish.

I suggest enjoying it black, especially if it forms part of a Christmas menu; however, it will also take milk or cream. At breakfast time, enjoy it black or with hot milk if you prefer. It is a coffee to enjoy with friends or simply on your own when the party is over and you are recovering.

I remember asking my father for a Christmas theme when I was dressing the shop window. Off the top of his head he said, “Give coffee for Christmas. A gift in good taste!” Of course, he was right. Coffee and tea make wonderful gifts – see our website and our new Christmas selection at H.R.Higgins.

I send my very best wishes to you for Christmas, and for a safe and healthy New Year as we look ahead to 2026.

Sincerely,

Tony Higgins

Rwandan Women's Cooperative Coffee - Mr Higgins Recommends

This month I am recommending a coffee produced by women. The Rwanda Women’s Cooperative Coffee Rusiga Sector is a collection of small farms entirely owned by women. They took over the ownership of their lands and are now expert coffee farmers with the help of the Kinini Project.

Mr Higgins recommends - Guatemala Nueva Granada

For February I am recommending one of my favourite light roasted coffees, Guatemala Nueva Granada from Central America. Grown high up in the remote area of San Marcos in sight of Central America’s highest mountain with its twin peaks, the extinct volcano, Tajumulco.
