This top grade organic Assam Chardwar Estate Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe tea is of outstanding quality and the finest grade you can get.
This large leaf tea from Assam in northern India is a classic of its kind. The Chardwar tea estate is owned by the Tea Promoters of India, a company which has modernized farms in the region which were previously in decline and which were still run the way they were in colonial times. Poor pay and conditions for workers have continued to exist in many parts of India long after independence. The Tea Promotors project was founded to help secure the future of tea production in India and establish a sustainable industry. They have introduced organic and certified measures as well as supporting education for women and the local workers. New measures have also improved the soil on the estates.
The garden lies the northern banks of the Brahmaputra River close to the border with Bhutan. Here the hot humid conditions provide fast growing conditions for the plants which are harvested all year round. They have much larger leaves than those grown at higher altitudes which when brewed uncurl to release a fruity flavour with a strong malty aftertaste.
The term ‘tippy’ when it comes to tea refers to the quality of the tea. If it is ‘tippy’, the tea is of higher grade and quality. The ‘tips’ of the tea refer to the bud which is picked. The best teas only contain the top two leaves and one bud from the bush, and if a tea is ‘tippy’, this means that it contains more buds which have the most concentrated and freshest flavours.
This superb Assam Chardwar Estate Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe tea is bright in the cup with a strong, fresh, malty flavour which accompanies afternoon tea perfectly.
