Product Description

In 2016, we first met Nicaragua La Bastilla farm owner Markus Fischer. Therefore we are now proud to be able to offer his coffee.

The La Bastilla farm is located in the Jinotega region of  North-East Nicaragua. It is 311 hectares in size. Of this, 160 hectares is dedicated to coffee. A further 143 hectares is primary forest. Consequently, on the farm there are 21 species of animals and 68 different birds. At an altitude of 1050-1400 metres, the coffee is shade grown under 49 varieties of tree. Blueberry Candy is a micro lot that has been specially prepared for us.

The Foundation for Rural Education and Entrepreneurship manages a technical school at the farm. FEER promotes quality education for youngsters.

Blueberry Candy is a naturally processed coffee. Hand-picked when ripe, the beans then dry carefully in the sun. As a result this imbibes the coffee with a very fruity sweet flavour. We are subsequently able to unlock this sweetness by roasting to a light to medium colour.

Try brewing this coffee as a filter or pourover. For best results use 19g of finely ground coffee per 250ml of water.

H.R. Higgins sources all of its coffee through long-established direct relationships with individual farmers, cooperatives and trusted partners. Sustainability is a key factor to our business. We wish to ensure that coffee farmers, their families and communities benefit from our relationship. Specifically, we work with farms that care for the local environment and work hard to combat climate change. Supporting their workers is also key to our mission.
