We are delighted to introduce the Tea Tasting Masterclass at H.R. Higgins. A new and carefully curated addition to our Mayfair calendar, offered on a limited number of select evenings each year.

Each masterclass is led by David Higgins, who introduced tea to the business in 1986 following a formal apprenticeship with a respected tea importer. For nearly four decades, he has sourced, tasted and refined the Higgins tea collection with the same discernment and dedication that defines our coffee.

These evenings are intentionally intimate. Hosted within our Duke Street shop after closing, with very small numbers, the setting allows for conversation, questions and a truly personal tasting experience. It is not a demonstration from afar, but an exchange around the table.

You will be welcomed with a Tea-Tini, served either as a cocktail or in a non-alcoholic version, before settling in for a guided exploration of exceptional loose leaf teas. Together, you will taste across key tea styles, discovering how origin, elevation, seasonality and craftsmanship shape flavour and character.

David will guide you through the his tea tasting experience, showing you how to assess aroma, body, balance and finish, while sharing the stories behind each tea. The evening moves at an unhurried pace, allowing space to refine the palate and deepen understanding.

“David Higgins was a super-knowledgable host and treated us to many fascinating stories alongside a selection of wonderful teas.” Siu-Lan, Tea Tasting Masterclass Participant

The masterclass concludes with a Tea Taster Kit to take home, including three carefully selected teas, tasting cards and a brewing guide, so the experience may continue at your own table.

This festival lasts more than just one night and much longer than simply gathering to wait for the clock to chime twelve and the fireworks to start. Whether you're celebrating or not, Chinese teas are always worth exploring.
