Galapagos San Cristobal - Mr Higgins Recommends

I am often asked “Mr. Higgins, which is your favourite coffee?”  And truthfully, I answer “I don’t have one single favourite, I love them all in different ways. Like many families, the family of coffee is fascinating. My father taught me to appreciate each for its own unique character.

Having said that, there are coffees that, while not going into a category of favourite to exclude all others, give me special pleasures. And this month I am recommending one such variety, Galapagos San Cristobal.

Grown on the most easterly island of the Galapagos Archipelago, and the only island to have a supply of fresh water. The island Darwin first went ashore from HMS Beagle in 1855.

This lovely medium roasted coffee has a rich full flavour, enticing acidity and subtle acidity.  Look for the caramel like sweetness.

The production is small, the world- wide demand huge.

In the words of my son David, “Quite simply the most balanced coffee flavour we have tasted. Try it once and be hooked!”

With my very best wishes

Tony Higgins

Rwandan Women's Cooperative Coffee - Mr Higgins Recommends

This month I am recommending a coffee produced by women. The Rwanda Women’s Cooperative Coffee Rusiga Sector is a collection of small farms entirely owned by women. They took over the ownership of their lands and are now expert coffee farmers with the help of the Kinini Project.

Mr Higgins recommends - Guatemala Nueva Granada

For February I am recommending one of my favourite light roasted coffees, Guatemala Nueva Granada from Central America. Grown high up in the remote area of San Marcos in sight of Central America’s highest mountain with its twin peaks, the extinct volcano, Tajumulco.
